Here’s a list of recessions and depressions since 1854. The Fed has a nice summary of the Gilded Age panics from 1863 to 1913. You can google the panics of 1819, 1837 and 1857 separately. It's a million times better to be a bank customer today.

This chart shows that inflation falls when the Fed raises rates. You can play with the data yourself.

My Yahoo Finance colleagues and I have extensively covered Trump's effort to fire the Fed chair, force rates lower and co-opt the central bank.

The tech company has generated amazing returns for investors. How much do you know about Nvidia? Take the quiz and find out. Ten questions. Go!

You can check out details about $NVDA stock on its Yahoo Finance ticker page.

Here's the 2016 story I wrote about Nvidia. Despite its remarkable stock performance that year, we were hesitant to name it company of the year because most people had never heard of it. We made the right call. If you search for images of Jensen Huang, he's almost always wearing a leather jacket. In 2023, the New York Times asked, "is this a trillion-dollar look?" Seems good to me.

Nvidia has an investment calculator on its web site that let's you calculate returns and compare them with benchmark indexes. And dream.

Most of this data comes from the Congressional Budget Office. The latest data goes through 2021, so it's a bit dated, but the trends remain intact. Anybody can download the tables and do their own analysis.

Beer tax data comes from the Tax Foundation, which also has tons of data on taxes and tax history.

I once made my own beer to avoid beer taxes. It was a good effort, but it turned out to be much easier to just buy retail and pay the tax.
